This was a route that I chose to go early on in buying a used car in Las Vegas. I was going to get an older car that was going to need some work done before I could drive it. What I thought would only take a week or two to have fixed on the vehicle ended up taking way more time and costing a lot more money than I first thought it would.

I found out how much of a hassle it can be to find car parts for vehicles, especially for older automobiles. I liked the idea at first because I was going to be able to buy the vehicle with cash and avoid needing to get a car loan. The idea of buying another car with cash was great because I did not want any debt and to have to pay interest on a car note. However, I got to see how difficult it can to have work done on an older car.

I made more trips to different parts stores all around the Las Vegas metro area than I care to remember. It was frustrating talking to so many people at different parts stores, receiving the wrong car parts numerous times, and having to explain my vehicle situation again at every part store.

Even ordering car parts online was more inconvenient than I anticipated. If a place does have the part in inventory for the specific vehicle then you still have to wait for it to be shipped. If they don't have it, then you have wait for the part even longer. All of this just adds more time to the car buying process and costs more money.

In addition to all of the hours of searching and waiting for parts, mechanics commonly come across problems as they are working on the vehicle. So there were times where I thought I had everything I needed to get the used car fixed up, and then I would have to get another part so that work could continue. Then I was back to searching parts stores, searching online, going to the junk yard through old automobiles to try to find the specific part I needed.

It was during all of this searching for auto parts that I really was thinking of trying another way to get a car like using Craigslist Las Vegas page or going to a Las Vegas car dealership to get a pre-owned car. I decided to just cut my losses on looking for parts to get the older car fixed and go another route for my first time buying a previously owned car in Las Vegas.
