Here is short checklist to use as a guide when you are planning a Vegas trip on the opening weekend of March Madness:

Vegas weather this time of year:
The weather during March in Las Vegas is absolutely beautiful. Winter is over, and there is still several months until the weather really warms up for the summer time. It is comfortable enough to wear shorts and shirt during the day. It will cool of somewhat at night, but it is still very comfortable.

Vegas Travel Expenses: Hotel Rates, Room Accommodations, Flight Bookings
To travel to Las Vegas for March Madness you can expect that your overall traveling costs to be VERY HIGH! Especially if you are visiting during the opening weekend of March Madness it is an incredibly busy time around Las Vegas. I think that the opening weekend of March Madness is the single craziest time of year in Las Vegas. Many of the hotels are operating at around 97-98% occupancy! There are so many people that come to town with their brackets filled out and ready to place bets that it creates a massive demand on the tourism industry. Everything will be more expensive from book plane flights to hotel rooms to Vegas travel packages for March Madness.

Is March Madness a good time to bring kids on a Vegas family vacation?
If you are looking for a family friendly time to vacation in Vegas then March Madness might deter you simply because it is so incredibly busy around town. I think it is the single busiest time of year in Las Vegas. It is a lot of fun, and the crowd it brings to town are in a great and excited mood for the tournament to begin. However, just based on the volume of people in town, I would not suggest that opening weekend of March Madness as an ideal time to be on vacation with young children in Vegas.

Other Vegas travel tips to keep in mind:
March Madness is a MASSIVE event on the calendar of Las Vegas tourism. Almost $200 million is bet on the tournament in the first four days of the opening weekend. The demand around town is insane with hotels operating at close to 100% occupancy! It is a crazy time to be on a vacation in Vegas, but it really is a lot of fun!
