Billionaire buyers circling two of the biggest casino companies on the Las Vegas Strip are raising fresh questions about what comes next for tens of thousands of hospitality jobs in Southern Nevada, especially as more properties experiment with electronic gaming and automation.

Businessman and Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta announced his intention to purchase Caesars Entertainment. Days later, media mogul and chair of People, Inc., Barry Diller, began moving forward with plans to buy MGM Resorts International. With the possibility of new ownership by the end of the summer, UNLV history department chair Michael Green said concerns about job losses are real.
