Are you thinking about moving to Las Vegas without a car? Chances are that if you have done your research about living in Las Vegas, then you know that the Las Vegas metro area has grown rapidly in recent years. With so much growth, the public transportation system is commonly seen as not being adequate enough to keep pace. Of course there are people living in Las Vegas without a car who use other means of transportation to get around. Some people use a bicycle, some people carpool and some do use the public bus system to get around Vegas.
The public bus transportation system is more of a viable option if you are living in the downtown area, and closer to the strip. If you are living in Las Vegas suburbs then you will not have as many options to take the bus. This is particularly true if you are working at odd hours of the day.
One option for transportation that you may want to consider while living in Las Vegas is getting a motorized scooter. I was completely unaware of how popular scooters are in Las Vegas as a method of transportation. You cannot drive them on the freeway. However, most of Las Vegas roads are very much like a grid. People will commonly take a road to get to the other side of town and cut over another another main road where they need to.
As far as registering your scooter, wearing a helmet, needing insurance, etc, just know that the laws are different than when it comes to a car. Some of the differences in the laws are based on the CCs of the scooter. If you're going to be living in Las Vegas without a car, then you could certainly purchase a scooter for a few hundred dollars to around one thousand dollars as a viable option for getting around town.
