There were a few things that stood out to be pretty early on that were different about living in Las Vegas than what I experienced living in California. Quite a few of them actually revolve around driving in Las Vegas.

One thing that is prevalent in some parts of the Vegas Valley is how huge some of the driving lanes are in residential areas. This is because there have been a lot of homes built here recently, but construction came to a halt when the economy went downhill. Some of the infrastructure also stopped as well. There are some roads that could clearly fit two or three lanes on each side, but have not been marked yet. Sometimes people treat it as one lane and other times people will just drive along another car or pass someone as if it is a multi-lane road.

Another point about driving was the flashing yellow arrow I see at a four way stoplight. I was always used to seeing the full green light at traffic intersections in California. I had to read the sign to figure out what that yellow arrow was for when I first moved out here.

There is also an expressway-type lane I have seen in the northwest part of town at three way traffic lights. If you are in the far right lane and your side of the road is not the side being intersected, then sometimes at the traffic lights there is a separate signal where you can just drive right through the intersection. That one threw me off big time the first time I saw it!

Also, the way people talk about their work week is different in Las Vegas. In just about every city in America people work Monday through Friday for the most part. However, with Las Vegas being a city so reliant on tourism, there are a lot of people here that do not work a regular work week or regular work hours. With that being said, there is a way people describe their work week here. If someone is off work Tuesday and Wednesday, then they will say that Thursday is their "Monday" and Monday is their "Friday." So if that is your work schedule then your weekend is not Saturday and Sunday like most of the country's workforce. Your weekend is on Tuesday and Wednesday. It took me some time to adjust to hearing people talk about their work schedule like that, but it does make sense and make communicating your work days a little easier.
