This was a big question I had when I was getting ready to relocate to Las Vegas. Whenever you are planning a to live in a new place you want to do as much research as you can. However, even with a lot of online research you can only gather so much about a place without getting to experience it yourself. I knew that living anywhere would have its pros and cons, but the overall quality of life is something that is difficult to discover until you are living in Las Vegas.
So the question about relocating to Las Vegas is "How good is the quality of life?" Living in Las Vegas will no be suitable for everyone, but I feel that pros of living in Las Vegas outweigh the cons, and creates a great quality of life for locals.
I was concerned about a lot of the same factors as you when I was moving to Las Vegas-jobs, finding a nice neighborhood to live in, etc. Now that I have lived here for several years I will go over a few things that I feel make the quality of life good here in Southern Nevada.
One of the bigger sources of stress that I often went through in the San Francisco Bay area was simply dealing with everyday traffic. In Las Vegas that stress is so much lower compared to other major cities because our traffic is pretty minimal for a city of its size.
Your finances can be much less stressful when you are living in Las Vegas also. We do not have a state income tax in Nevada. Nevada is actually ranked as a state with one of the lowest overall tax burdens in the U.S.
Your dollar also goes MUCH further here in Las Vegas than it does in so many other major cities in America. If you are living in a big city like San Jose, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, Miami, Chicago, etc. it is not uncommon for people to be spending about half of their income just on their rent or mortgage. Also, many of those major cities are much older than Las Vegas. So you are paying for more money to live in an older building. Here in Vegas we have so many homes that were built within the last decade that are far more affordable than other big areas.
Lastly, one of the best parts about moving to Las Vegas was the amount of options that you have as a local resident. There is always something to do here just about every hour of every day on and off the strip, and locals get discounts!
