This is a questions that I am surprised to get as often as I do. People sometimes ask me about what type of wildlife you see while living in Las Vegas? Southern Nevada has no shortage of wildlife in the desert and in the mountains. However, most people that are living in a residential neighborhood are not likely to run into a lot of the local wildlife.
Sometimes you may see a fox or a coyote running across the road at night if you are in the suburbs, especially if you are on the outskirts of town. You will likely see roaches. The cockroaches typically show up in the warmer months when they try to come into people's homes. There are many different types of spiders and scorpions that live in the Las Vegas area. Spiders are much more common to see than scorpions though. In all of the years that I have lived in the Vegas area, I have never seen a scorpion. The people who do see scorpions are typically locals that live more on the edge of town where they are farther out into nature, and are more likely to come into contact with wildlife. There are times when a person's house can get infested with roaches, spiders or scorpions. At that point there are a lot of different pest control companies in Las Vegas and Henderson, NV that will send out an exterminator to handle the bug problem.
One other animal that I have heard about the Henderson, NV area, but not in Las Vegas, is bats. I have seen bats flying around the Seven Hills area of Henderson before, but I do not know if they are a major problem for local families that live in that community.
