I have been getting some questions about North Las Vegas recently. Some people are a little confused about what North Las Vegas is because they are only familiar with Las Vegas. Often times people think North Las Vegas is just a part of the city of Las Vegas. Here in Clark County there are only three cities: Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson, NV.
North Las Vegas is its own separate and distinct city from the the city of Las Vegas. North Las Vegas is within Clark County and it is a part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area. North Las Vegas was incorporated in 1946, and has a population today of around 225,000 people living there.
When people think of North Las Vegas they often think of it as being full of bad neighborhoods to avoid that are full of crime. Despite this common line of thinking, North Las Vegas does have several good neighborhoods. Aliante is considered by some to be the best place and is probably the most popular neighborhoods in North Las Vegas. The area is popular with families with small children, single people, and seniors as well. The city of North Las Vegas does have regular community events that are family friendly and provide activities for kids. There also are several nice gated communities in North Las Vegas like North Peak, Eldorado Heights and Eldorado Ridge. Also, because of how close Nellis Air Force Base is, you will notice that there are a lot of military families living in North Las Vegas in order to be close to the base.
One of the added benefits of living in North Las Vegas for some people is the distance that it is from the strip. Many parts of North Las Vegas still provide easy access to the freeway to get to Las Vegas Blvd or Downtown Fremont St. However, you can also find places that are 20 minutes or farther in driving distance from downtown and the strip. That fact alone is one reason why some people prefer to live in North Las Vegas. They like being able to go to a nice, quiet neighborhood that is a good distance from the center of all of the action.
