Earlier this month Governor Sandoval made the announcement that a start up company called Faraday would be choosing Nevda over California as the place to build its new plant. Faraday, from Gardena, California, is a startup company that builds electric cars.

The Faraday plant will be located in North Las Vegas. Construction of the new $1 billion plant that covers over three million square feet will begin in the first quarter of 2016. Faraday has set a very ambitious manufacturing goal for producing its electric cars. The company hopes to have their cars on the road as early as 2017. Faraday will be demonstrating a model prototype of their electric cars at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in January, 2016.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval helped close the deal by offering Faraday $215 million in tax incentives and $119 million in infrastructure improvements in North Las Vegas. However, Faraday will not be able to receive any of these benefits until they invest at least $1 billion.

The arrival of the new Faraday factory to the Las Vegas area is expected to have a sizable economic impact. It is expected to generate 4,500 jobs immediately, and create even more jobs in the coming years. This is great news for the Southern Nevada local economy. Last year Governor Sandoval closed a deal that convinced Tesla Motors to open a plant in Northern Nevada in the Reno-Sparks area. Now that Southern Nevada has closed a similar deal with a technology company, it is expected to have a positive impact on the local Las Vegas economy, and the state economy overall. Nevada has been pushing to get more technology companies to invest and operate in the Silver State, and are gradually having success in doing so. The coming years will be critical in diversifying Nevada's economic strength from being so reliant on tourists and now being productive in other important industries.
