I have seen a lot of YouTube videos about this. This happened on a Wednesday night just before midnight while I was driving south on Paradise Road just before it intersects with Tropicana Avenue.

When the police set up these DUI checkpoints just understand that you DO NOT HAVE TO TALK TO THEM. You have not done anything wrong, you are not suspected of committing a crime, and there is no valid reason to stop your car and ask for anything. There are people who open themselves up to all kinds of liability when they try to just comply with the officers. There are also accounts of people being arrested in Las Vegas for a DUI even though they were not under the influence. Finding a DUI attorney in Las Vegas to go through all of the Las Vegas DUI laws is expensive. Going through the DUI process of removing a DUI offense and having to pay a lawyer to do it can be a huge hit to most people's financial situation. I chose to exercise my constitutional rights and that way I don't even have to worry about getting a DUI in Las Vegas.

The more you talk to the police officers at one of these sobriety checkpoints the more opportunities they have to try to get you to admit something or at least give them enough evidence that they feel they should be suspicious to try to claim you were driving under the influence arrest your for a DUI. If they can get you to even hint at drinking that night or cause them to question the validity of what you are saying then you are putting yourself at risk of getting arrest for a DUI and falsely accused driving while under the influence. At that point you are likely going to have to find a DUI lawyer in Las Vegas to handle this case. Finding a DUI attorney can be an even bigger hassle if you are visiting Vegas as a tourist.

I do give credit to this officer for knowing and upholding the U.S. Constitution, and not trying to abuse his power. Just know that you are NEVER required to talk to the police. It could save you from incriminating yourself, and in this case, help keep a false DUI offense charge off of your record.
