This video is more geared towards advice about living in Las Vegas. This was a topic that I wanted to touch on because I have gotten to really see certain aspects of the local culture here in Las Vegas, and this is one of the common negative aspects I have noticed.
Nevadans do not rank well when it comes to financial management. Some of that can be seen simply in the local businesses around town. When I first moved to Las Vegas I noticed how many payday loan type businesses that were here in town. Also, there are a large number of pawn shops here in Las Vegas, as well as storage facilities. With Las Vegas being such a transient city, there are a lot of people who come and go for different reasons, but finances are a common reason why.
Some people come to Vegas with neon in their eyes and get caught gambling away their money. So they may get desperate and start using short term lenders to get money to try to win back the money they lost. They may also pawn items that they own in an attempt to keep up with their bills. This often turns out badly. Some people just leave town and leave whatever they owned behind.
I say this not to scare you, but to let you know that having a financial plan is important for stability in your life. A lot of people in Las Vegas have fallen victim to not planning out their financial picture very well. Many of them probably never had someone to look to as an advisor and felt lost being in a city that they are not familiar with.
I have talked before about having a financial plan and saving money before you are planning to move to Las Vegas. However, you will see once you get here that there is a sizable portion of the population who have let the money they make take control of them because they are not in control of their lives. Make sure you do some financial planning before you move to Las Vegas, and then continue to work you plan while you live here. It will take a lot of stress out of your life.
