One thing that is really awesome about Las Vegas is the lack of natural disasters that we experience in Southern Nevada. There are earthquakes in Nevada, but a lot of them seem to be more in the Northern area, or outside of Las Vegas. I think I may have felt an earthquake one time in all of the years that I have been living here. We don’t have massive snow storms in the winter time, even though the temperature in the area can get to be below freezing. It does get cold in the Las Vegas area, but it’s not too bad as long as the wind doesn’t pick up. It can get windy during the winter time and the windiest time of year is during the spring.

We do not have any mudslides, tornadoes or hurricanes in Las Vegas or Henderson, NV. We do have monsoons in the summer months. With the monsoons, there are times that we will get a heavy downpour of rain with hail, thunder and lightning. During monsoon season there will sometimes be storm warnings that go out to local residents in cash of flash floods on the strip, in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, or Henderson. The only other “natural disaster” that we experience in this area would probably be all of the heat that we get in the summer months of June, July and August. However, we know every year that there will be heat waves coming through the area that will make for some very hot days.
