I jumped on this Las Vegas tour as soon as I heard it was opening! Wayne Newton’s famous house “Casa de Shenandoah” was just reopened for public tours in September, 2015. Wayne Newton has a long history here in Las Vegas that eventually earned him the name “Mr. Las Vegas.”
I went on a weekday to do this Las Vegas tour because I felt that would be when it was least crowded. I was correct that it was not very crowded. Also, a lot of people are not aware yet that the house is even available to do as a Las Vegas tour.
The home is located at 3310 East Sunset Road in Las Vegas at the intersection of Pecos Road on the east side of Las Vegas. The tour I did was called the “Gold Tour.” It was the only one available at the time, and the cost was $35. This Las Vegas tour was well worth the money! You start off at the gift shop across the street from the property. There you watch a 15 minute video that gives a brief history of Wayne Newton’s life and influence in Las Vegas. From there you take a shuttle bus over to Casa de Shenandoah. The 62 acres is absolutely beautiful to see when you are driving in.
The shuttle drops you off at the museum. Inside is where you can see a lot of Wayne Newton’s military memorabilia and awards he received for all of the support he had shown the military over his life. At one end of the military memorabilia is where Wayne Newton’s private terminal is that goes directly into his Fokker F-28 twin engine private jet! In the jet you are allowed to sit in the cockpit, have your photo taken, and walk throughout the the jet.
After you see the jet, and then pass through the military memorabilia, you can go into the garage and see Wayne Newton’s car collection. This was one of the cooler parts of this Las Vegas tour! Newton has 12 cars parked in his collection in the garage-7 of them are Rolls Royces!
Connected to the far end of the garage is Newton’s costume room. This is a smaller room, but it has a very nice display of costumes that he wore back when you was performing regularly.
From the costume room the shuttle bus will take you to see Newton’s Arabian horses. I got the chance to see one of the horses do a swimming workout in the pool on his property. During the workout the tour guides did a great job of answering questions and giving people background information about the horses on the property.
After seeing the horses you get back on the shuttle bus to see the “Exotic Animals” section. Here is where you get to see parrots, cockatiels, peacocks, a black swan, a monkey, wallabies, and African Crowned cranes. This area alone has more than enough interesting life to see, especially for those of you that are nature lovers!
Since I did the “Gold Tour” from here you can either end your day and go back to the gift shop. However, if you like you can simply take the shuttle bus back to another stop that you were at before. There is no time limit set on how long you can be on the tour. Just understand that with the Gold Tour that you do not have the ability to actually go inside of the home.
At the end of it I would say that visiting Wayne Newton’s Home Casa de Shenandoah was a great experience! This Las Vegas tour is family friendly, appropriate for all ages, and certainly for those that are big time Wayne Newton fans. If you really want to see into the life of Wayne Newton and get to see some of “Old Vegas” then this is the Las Vegas tour for you!
