Jon Jones is the most gifted and most self-destructive fighter in the history of professional mixed martial arts — a man who has spent fifteen years proving he is the greatest to ever do it and an equal amount of time proving he cannot stay out of his own way.

The former two-division UFC champion who became the youngest title holder in promotion history at 23 years old has accumulated a controversy resume that reads like a cautionary tale nobody asked him to write. Two separate USADA anti-doping violations. A 2009 disqualification for illegal elbows that Michael Bisping recently ranked the biggest foul in MMA history. A hit-and-run incident in Albuquerque in 2015. An arrest outside a strip club in Las Vegas. A New Mexico criminal summons in June 2025.

He turned down $30 million to fight Tom Aspinall, retired, unretired on the Fourth of July to fight on the White House card, then got publicly shut out by Dana White — who told every available media outlet he simply cannot trust Jones with a high-stakes event anymore.

He then watched the White House card get announced without him. The most technically complete fighter the octagon has ever seen keeps producing the most compelling argument against himself — and does not appear to be stopping any time soon.
