Now that we are in 2022, it is time to catch a glimpse of things that could make or break Las Vegas this year. I focus on 6 main things that will impact the city, the tourists and its residents either in a negative or positive way: safety, the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy, the visitor experience, the notorious fees, and the booming construction on and off the Strip.

Last year, we saw an increased number of homicides and other crime, with many incidents staying under the radar in terms of media coverage. The year finished off with two active shooters on New Year's eve, which could precede another year of high criminal activity. Coronavirus variants continue to spread into the valley, though it is unlikely that we will see another lockdown again. Casino operators and hotel owners experienced record breaking numbers when it comes to revenue despite a decreased number of visitors last year, while attendance for the CES convention was poor this year. Virgin Hotels is the latest property to introduce fees for their parking despite their stance on it during its construction marketing campaign. Finally, large construction projects are expected to continue making progress, with the MSG Sphere taking center stage upon its 2023 opening date.
