Songs with attitude get big love on TikTok - just ask Lonr. His hit “A.M.” #blewupontiktok to the tune of 2.4 mil vids thanks to its hypnotic repetition and rock-star vibes. But it’s not just the cool social media kids who recognize Lonr.’s skills. In 2017, Grammy award-winning R&B singer H.E.R. milked his songwriting talents for her eponymous album, which led to a couple Recording Academy noms. Naturally, wider recognition from the industry followed. Born to a musical family and raised in an isolated beach town on Cape Cod, Lonr. makes a point of candidly expressing the disquiet that bounces around his head. It’s understandable to equate his moniker with introversion or isolation. To a degree, that’s correct. Lonr.’s professes growing up as the only black kid in an all-white town led him to develop a solo-dolo identity. It’s actually an acronym: Land of Nothing Real. “I always stayed in the creative space, even before creating music... I would find a way.” In his DSCVR performance, you can see his love of Tyler, The Creator and Pharrel shine through as his passion seemingly bends genres on both “A.M.” and the sincerity-stricken “Safe Zone.” No doubt you’ll wanna hop outta bed, watch it again.
