S1MBA - Loose ft. KSI. An exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR ARTISTS TO WATCH 2021, an annual series highlighting those that are shaping the future of music.

Spend the weekend with “Rover” on repeat and you’ll know how the Zimbabwe-born, Swindon-raised S1mba blasted out of obscurity this year. The track’s an instant convincer, with a pliable groove supporting the 21-year-old’s love of the mu-la-la while still making time for a little ooh-la-la. There’s a don’t-care attitude driving S1mba (real name Leonard Rwodzi), who played djembe drum in Africa as a kid and sat in super-tight church bands as a teen. When he started messing around with hip-hop tracks as a hobby at 14, he had a feeling that was validated by his rap-loving crew: his skills were better than most. That’s when the ambitious teen decided to give a music career a shot. He dropped his first rhymes over Mustard’s “Freak Of The Week” and went on to shape “The Plan,” his first real offering. While splitting time between uni and music last year, he released “Rover,” and the fire started to burn. Australian TikTok fans used it in a dance challenge, Spotify playlists opened more doors, and that hook became an earworm. When he got back from a Zimbabwe visit at the start of 2020, he learned he’d gone viral. The fun-loving rapper is a hard worker, too, sometimes recording all night during the pandemic lockdown. He says he’s just an “African boy out here lovin’ music,” and is happy that “UK urban music gets more respect these days than it did a decade ago.” His “Loose” follow-up is part of the reason why, and is just as fun as “Rover.” Check out both ATM performances to instantly better your day.
