School just didn’t seem right to Enitan Adepitan. Neither did those day jobs, especially the one in the bank. The South London 26-year-old gave ‘em a shot, but she was always crafting rhymes in her head, and the fun of expressing herself artistically seldom left her thoughts. That’s a good thing, because ENNY’s music needs to be heard. You’ve probably come across “Peng Black Girls” or “Same Old,” her two biggest tracks. The former is a salute to diversity, the latter a venting of daily frustrations that references the deep ripples of Brexit and the way her hood has yielded to the buzzy gentrification. ENNY may have had some doubts about jumping into music full-time, but her flow boasts the kind of swag that makes you instantly believe her opinions. It helped that her musically slanted fam supported her initially scary move. And it helped that indicators of success hit rather quickly. “Same Old” arrived at the close of 2019, and “He’s Not Into You” dropped at the start of the pandemic. It quickly earned her a manager, and he introduced her to Root 73, a local music collective bent on breaking new ground; it wasn’t long before she realized she’d found her tribe. “Peng Black Girls” gained the traction that any eloquent indictment of stereotypes should receive, and it enjoyed an extra bump when label mate Jorja Smith personally requested to jump on the remix. When she hit the Dscvr studio for a run at 'I Want' and 'Malibu ft. KinKai', we knew we had a live one on our hands. Go, ENNY!
